Surviving hard times – A coach's perspective"A great way to survive hard times is to remember when things were worse! In my late twenties I met a young millionaire who was bored at the age of twenty-three so we forged a plan to go into business together. I wanted to help people and he had nothing better to do so we were a good partnership for a while. After three years the relationship broke down. The money was his so I lost everything, even my sanity for a while. However, what I gained was a more balanced perspective on what is really important in life and this has enabled me to always see a positive side to every set of circumstances. I later discovered that this is all that coaching is: The ability to help individuals to choose perspectives that enable them to overcome the challenges they are facing.
In my experience people can get so caught up in the detail of what they are doing with their lives that they lose sight of the fundamental reason for why they started out on the journey in the first place. What I endeavour to do is to help people regain this perspective in order to grow their confidence and clarity of thinking". |
